Thor Larsen for Torlan Staffanstorp 'Ovalia' Egg Chair in Blue Fiberglass
Henrik Thor-Larsen for Torlan Staffanstorp, 'Ovalia' Egg Chair, fiberglass, aluminum, fabric, Sweden, 1968-1978
In 1968, this postmodern 'Ovalia' Egg Chair was first presented at the Scandinavian Furniture Fair in Stockholm. The chair perceived great succes among the public that sought for symbolic, unconventional, and informal seating furniture. Although the chair is reminiscent of an egg, Thor-Larsen was inspired by drawings he made as a child that his family received during World War Two rationing in German-occupied Denmark. Besides its aesthetic appeal, functionality comes into play as it allows the user to take different position in the wide seat. A truly icon and postmodern piece that will grab everyone's attention. This model was in production for ten years from 1968-1978.
