Theo Ruth for Artifort Orange Sofa
Theo Ruth for Artifort, two-seat sofa, fabric and metal, The Netherlands, 1970
A Dutch settee in orange colored fabric by Theo Ruth. The back tilts slightly backward and has the recognizable natural flow and feel of Ruth's design. The frame of the sofa is executed in an ingenious black coated metal frame. The seat seems to lean into the frame, inviting the sitter to sit down. The seating is thick and comfortable, which is something Ruth is known for.
Please note we have a second settee in our collection as well with a different type of upholstery. These settees can be made into a set by reupholstering the two pieces, which can be done by the experienced craftsmen in our in-house atelier. Ask one of our advisors for more information.
Theo Ruth (1915-) can be consideredas the Pioneer of the designs by Artifort. In 1936 he joined the company, first as cabinetmaker, later in 1939 as head of the design and development department. The Congo chair is his best known design and was great sales success for Artifort.
