The Hague School Dutch Art Deco Lounge Chair in Beige Velvet and Teak

This charming lounge chair belongs to the Hague School, a movement that emphasizes geometric shapes, simple proportions, and constructivist decorations. In terms of shape, the chair is defined by its architectural quality with a strongly rectilinear silhouette, yet not rigid. Crafted from teak, the wide and flat armrests are supported by stout and clean-lined legs. The curved backrest, subtly tilted for ergonomic support, introduces a gentle arc that breaks the otherwise right-angled visual language. At the same time, there are small but significant interruptions in this geometry. The side panels, for example, are cut with a rounded, scalloped edge that adds rhythm and a softening detail to an otherwise stern profile.
