Peder Moos, tea or bar trolley, teak, brass, glass, Denmark, design 1942, made 1948
The Danish cabinetmaker Peder Moos (1906-1991) was widely admired for his unmistakable craftsmanship and highly personal approach to furniture making. Working from a deep understanding of traditional woodworking, he selected only the finest timbers and was able to bring out the natural beauty of the wood with remarkable detail. As he mostly worked on commission basis, his output remained intentionally limited, only creating a small number of wooden furniture pieces by his own hand. As he worked largely on commission, his output remained intentionally limited, crafting only a small number of wooden furniture pieces entirely by his own hand.
Moos began his career as a trained cabinetmaker before continuing his education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he studied architecture from 1935 to 1938 under the influential teachers Einar Utzon-Frank and Kaare Klint. During these formative years he also spent time in France, experiences that broadened his artistic perspective before he later established his own workshop in Copenhagen.
The model of this present trolley, both conceived and meticulously executed by Moos himself, was exhibited at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition at the Designmuseum Danmark in 1942.
