Percival Lafer 'MP 87' Lounge Chair in Beige Suede
Tearsheet
Percival Lafer, lounge chair, model ‘MP-87’, leather, chrome-plated steel, rope, Brazil, 1971
The MP-87 lounge piece is conceived by Brazilian designer Percival Lafer in the 1970s. At its core, the piece embraces an oval-like form, generous and full-bodied with a central depression, naturally receiving the body. This chair doesn’t rely on sharp angles or visible structure. Instead, its softness is emphasized through continuous curves, with suede stretched across its surface, gathering and folding in places. What anchors the design is its unusual base. The piece can either rest directly on the floor, echoing a kind of grounded, lounge-like informality, or sit elevated on a circular chromed steel frame. Beneath the voluminous seat, a fishing net is stretched across the framework, which endows the design with a playful and tranquil appearance.
