Roger Capron, custom-made large table, ceramic, oak, France, 1980s

In the 1980s, French master ceramist Roger Capron created this custom design for a private residence in Cannes, making it a unique and distinguished example of his work. Its elongated proportions immediately set it apart — an unusually long and narrow format that stretches the viewer’s gaze horizontally, spanning over 410 cm in length. Here, a portray of a vidid farm scene unfolds, featuring animals, barns, birds, plants, the sun and a female figure, all rendered in Capron’s distinctive illustrative style. The top is a continuous field of warm-toned ceramic tiles, its drawing rendered in earthy, fine-lined etching that feels intimate in contrast to the expansive format. The legs, in solid oak, are robust yet restrained, united by a horizontal stretcher with exposed cross-shaped joinery that forms an integral part of the construction and lends the piece a pastoral character. The table reflects impeccable craftsmanship, with the ceramic top as its most striking testament to Roger Capron’s artistry.

The piece is signed with "RCapron".
