A charming French sideboard dating from the postwar period, produced for Grands Magasins du Printemps, and manufactured at the firm’s Usine de Montreuil, the piece reflects the department store’s ambitious role in shaping modern taste in mid-century France. Printemps was not merely a retailer but a cultural arbiter, commissioning furniture that could translate contemporary design ideals into accessible luxury.

The construction is in solid oak, a material favored in postwar France for its strength and durability; the warm grain and patina add a natural touch to the cabinet. The most distinctive feature are the carved motifs: stars, hearts, clubs, diamonds, crosses, triangles... An effect that is charmingly eccentric.
