Mid-Century Italian Pair of Lounge Chairs in Sky Blue Upholstery and Wood

Tearsheet
Pair of lounge chairs, fabric, rosewood, Italy, 1950s

Set of armchairs rooted in the Italian mid-century design of the 1950s. Upholstered in a soft, slightly muted blue fabric, the seat and backrest are beautifully shaped into a cascade form. What complicates this softness is the wooden frame. The structure sits visibly outside the upholstery, with upright supports and horizontal stretchers that have an architectural quality to it. These types of constructivist shapes were typical for this period, reflecting a broader interest in making structure visible and legible, as designers began to emphasize how objects were built rather than concealing their construction.

Kindly take note that the fabric is in good, used condition with signs of use. Reupholstery can be done before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
