Mario Bellini for Cassina Pair of 'Quartet' Lounge Chairs in Beige Suede
Mario Bellini for Cassina, pair of 'Quartet' lounge chairs, model '932', suede, Italy, 1964
Known as the Quartet, this lounge chair was designed by Mario Bellini as a reinterpretation of traditional upholstered furniture. Bellini experimented with the role of the padded cushion, removing the conventional supporting frame and allowing the cushions to function as the furniture itself. The design consists of independent cushions held together by a belt wrapped around the exterior. This direct construction gives the chair a soft, informal appearance and a high level of comfort.
