Studio Architettura Ambientazione Arredamento M.C. Magnani & A. Schieppati, vanity table, walnut, maple, mirrored glass, Milan, Italy, 1950s
This charming vanity table is a 1950s design conceived by Architettura Ambientazione Arredamento M.C. Magnani & A. Schieppati, a studio based in Milan. The shape of the object unfolds in a thoughtful dialogue between geometric precision and soft, organic flow. One of the most defining features is the integrated storage volume, a curved element that sweeps from the tabletop's edge, forming an asymmetric side wing. Inside this volume, a stack of three convex drawers are seamlessly integrated, showing excellent craftsmanship. Each drawer is marked by a small, square-cut pull – slightly recessed – which adds a graphic punctuation to the smooth surface. The top’s corners are meticulously contoured, which are in line with the overall organic allure of the piece. The hinged top opens to reveal a recessed compartment and a square mirror, turning the piece into a dressing table. When folded down, it is perfectly suited as a compact writing desk. The wood is truly mesmerizing: a warm, honey-toned maple interspersed with broader, deeper walnut, whose lighter streaks and shifting tones create a richly animated surface
