Knud Vodder for Niels Vodder, dining table, Oregon pine, formica, Denmark, design 1958

Knud Vodder originally designed this table specifically for his own home. His father, the acclaimed Danish cabinetmaker Niels Vodder, crafted the table. The design was first presented at the Cabinetmakers' Guild exhibition in 1958. Knud Vodder created a coherent table which is achieved by his implementation of purely geometric forms. Not only the structure of each individual element, but also the arrangement of color emphasizes the table's composition of straight and angular lines and shapes. The table top is executed in Oregon pine, a type of wood mainly from the coastal areas and mountains of North America. On each side, a fold-down leave is attached which allows the user to enlarge the surface of the table. The material that has been used for the leaves is formica, which is easy to clean and gives a dark contrast to the warmth of the wood. The top is mounted on runner legs in Oregon pine that gives the table a light and airy appearance. This is enhanced by the table's color palette: green and blue leaves, a light yellow-brown pine, and a black lacquered rail.
