Italian Postmodern Architectural Bookcase in Black and Blue
Attributed to Michele de Lucchi, bookcase, laminated wood, brass, Italy, circa 1968
This stunning polychrome cabinet is exemplary for early postmodern interior design. Build up in solely horizontal and vertical lines. The black colored rectangular open cases and square, solid junctions are connected to each other by the blue colored panels, forming a grid. The horizontal blue lines form the base of this bookcase, with additional black shelves here and there in between. A playful and extravagant piece that shows strong traits of Italian designer and architect Michele de Lucchi, and therefore attributed to him. He was part of the legendary Memphis Group in the 1980s.
The wall unit shows signs of age and use and some wooden pieces show cracks and damages. Please note that we advise restoration before use. This can be done before shipping by our experienced craftsmen and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
