Hans Hopfer for Neue Wiener Werkstätte 'Castell' modular sofa, fabric, plastic, Austria, design 1972

Stunning modular sofa designed by Hans Hopfer for Neue Wiener Werkstätte. This sofa exists of various Tetris-shaped pieces. Design in the seventies was all about going beyond the strict conventions of modernism, with the exploration of the different qualities of materials, use of colors, and peculiar shapes and proportions. In the design world of the 1970s, it was commonplace to see sectional sofas featuring a soft, bulky layout and rendered in vibrant colors. This seamless seating system consists of four seating elements, a corner element, and one ottoman. Due to the differently shaped pieces, the possibilities of arranging the pieces are endless. Maximum comfort is guaranteed by means of the thick and large seats. The fabric with muted colors and adorned with lively botanical motifs, perfectly captures the spirited aesthetic of the 1970s.

Kindly note that the fabric is in good, used condition. Your special requests regarding reupholstery and finishing can be realized by the experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration and upholstery atelier.
