Guillerme et Chambron, lounge chair and cabinet, oak, leather, France, 1960s
This is a remarkable cabinet by Guillerme et Chambron. The whole construction is based on a seating area and a unique, custom-made cabinet. The armrest is beautifully shaped and contains an engraved cup holder. The armrest is attached to the cabinet featuring a large foldable door with a wooden handle that runs along the upper edge. The surface is adorned with a geometrical veneer pattern, adding a wonderful rhythmic and haptic surface to the back. Another decorative detail is the rhombus motif on the side. The lounge chair including its four cylindrical legs is fully upholstered in patinated cognac leather.
The French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their production postwar. Many of the furniture designed by this duo this piece shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The duo installed themselves in an old factory were the machinery was used to make rifles. Guillerme & Chambron saw the potential of these machinery and decided to continue production as it was installed and used them for the design of their high back chairs. The line of different furniture pieces was made in small editions. They call their collection “Votre Maison” which means “Your home.”.
