Giotto Stoppino for Elco Set of Six Stackable 'Scagno' Side Tables
Tearsheet
Giotto Stoppino for Elco, set of six 'Scagno' stackable side tables, ABS plastic, Scorze, Venice, Italy, 1970s
Designed by Giotto Stoppino, this 1970s set of stackable elements embodies a versatile character. In Venetian (Murano) terminology, “scagno” refers to a stool or bench, specifically a simple, backless wooden working seat traditionally used by glassmakers.
Made from off-white ABS plastic, the elements can be stacked to form a cabinet-like structure or used individually as side tables or stools. The design reflects the late 1960s–70s Italian approach to blurring functional categories, while the use of plastic is characteristic of the period’s experimental and forward-looking material culture. All pieces are signed.
Kindly note that the pieces are in good, used condition. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists.
