Gianfranco Frattini for Cassina Lounge Chair in Green Upholstery and Teak
Gianfranco Frattini for Cassina, lounge chair model 877, fabric, teak, Italy, 1959
This grand lounge chair is based on a solid construction, featuring strict lines and angular shapes. While the seat convinces with its bulky and voluminous appearance, the wooden frame is surprisingly open and clear. When experienced from the side, a rather pronounced shape forms the sides, which is achieved by the enlarged ears and tilted seat that extends further.
Gianfranco Frattini (1926-2004) was an Italian designer and architect. Similarly to many other architects, Frattini became an interior and Industrial designer because he missed the specific furnishings for his buildings. Frattini was a very skilled woodworker and was a student of Gio Ponti. His style can be defined by its architectural structure and playful lines.
