French Pair of Patio Chairs in Black Lacquered Iron
Pair of patio armchairs, lacquered iron, France, 1970s
Pair of French chairs defined by its elegant and airy look with its open framework and singular black color. The designer used quadrifoil perforated sheet iron for the seat. A material that played a major role in the development of the French signature style during the postwar era. This technique had already frequently been implemented in the work by esteemed French artists, among others Mathieu Matégot, René Herbst, Pierre Legrain, Étienne Kohlmann and Jean Bossu. The iron construction with openings imbues the chairs with a lightweight quality, rendering them eminently suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings.
