De Pas, D’Urbino & Lomazzi for Ampaglas Pair of 'Shaula' Lounge Chairs
Gionathan de Pas & Donato D’Urbino & Paolo Lomazzi for Ampaglas, pair of Shaula lounge chairs, ABS plastic, expanded polyurethane, fabric, Italy, 1970s
Gionathan de Pas & Donato D’Urbino & Paolo Lomazzi, the notorious Italian designer trio, introduced these quirky armchairs which are produced by Ampaglas in the seventies. The design adheres to a rather unconventional shape typical for that period with its round, bulky shapes and disproportioned dimensions. The foundation is constructed from ABS in a dark brown color, a durable plastic frequently used in furniture design of this period. Each chair is accompanied with a padded cushion with a single unbroken form in the color green. These chairs are made to reach an ultimate level of comfort as can clearly be recognized in the design. This design aesthetic not only reflects the new production technology of the time, but also captures the redefinition of mobility in the 1960s-70s, which was driven by the desire for a playful and relaxed environment.
Please note that the frames contain scratches and wear. The cushions are discolored and worn. Reupholstery and restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer.
