Jacob Pieter van den Bosch, Becht & Dyserinck for 't Binnenhuis, pendant lamp, Opus 617, brass, fabric, the Netherlands, design ca. 1907

This elegant pendant lamp, model Opus 617, is a characteristic example of Jac. van den Bosch's belief that decorative objects should unite beauty, craftsmanship, and utility. Executed in brass, the wide conical shade is enriched with delicately pierced geometric and stylized floral motifs, creating a decorative interplay of light and shadow when illuminated. The lamp contains a fabric diffuser beneath the shade, producing a warm, softly filtered light while emphasizing the craftsmanship of the design.

Trained at Amsterdam's Rijksschool voor Kunstnijverheid under the influential architect P.J.H. Cuypers – the designer of the Rijksmuseum and Amsterdam Central Station – Van den Bosch developed into a leading architect and designer of furniture and interiors. In 1900, together with H.P. Berlage, he founded the progressive furnishing company 't Binnenhuis, which became one of the most important advocates of modern Dutch design in the first decades of the twentieth century. Through furniture, interiors and lighting, Van den Bosch sought to bridge the worlds of art, craft and industry, producing designs that were both sophisticated and eminently functional.
