Tearsheet
Gérard Gallet for Mobilier International, sofas, fabric, wood wrapped in leatherette, France, circa 1980
This piece constitutes a rare example of the oeuvre of Gérard Gallet (1934–1999), a prominent French designer and interior decorator recognized for his sophisticated approach to uniting furnishings and art objects from multiple eras within the homes of the Parisian upper bourgeoisie. A graduate of the École Boulle at the notably early age of nineteen, Gallet began his career at Mobilier International, the influential French furniture editor and distributor founded in 1957 by Michel Schulmann. There he advanced to lead the design office, shaping the firm’s creative direction over several years. In 1964, Gallet established his own studio, producing a diverse body of furniture and interiors for private clients as well as for public and commercial spaces, including hotels, boutiques, and office environments.
The present seating ensemble, dating from around 1980, is another great example of his artistic approach, fusing the bold geometry of Art Deco with a sleek, modern silhouette. It is distinguished by its polygonal, subtly faceted form. The piece’s substantial scale, combined with its striking geometric articulation, positions it naturally as a visual centerpiece in any room.
Kindly note that the fabric is in good, used condition with signs of age and use. Reupholstery can be done before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
The price listed is per sofa.
