Side chair or lounge chair, fabric, lacquered steel, brass, Italy, 1950s

This chair presents a clear example of mid-century modern design from the 1950s. Its shape is defined by a balance between geometric clarity and sculptural lightness. The seat and backrest are formed as simple, bold volumes: a wide, rectangular cushion base and a tall, slightly tapered back that rises vertically without ornament. The backrest narrows gently toward the top. Both elements are upholstered in a vivid red patterned upholstery with dark brown threads. In contrast to these solid, upholstered surfaces, the base is open, airy, and linear. The structure is made of black lacquered steel rods, intersecting in crisscross patterns. The legs are slender and extend downward with small brass details at the joints and feet, introducing warmth and a refined accent to the otherwise strict geometry of the frame.
