Maison Regain, daybed, solid elm, fabric, France, 1980s.

A Maison Regain daybed, whose structure is composed primarily of solid elm, imparts a sense of warmth and organic texture to the otherwise rigorous geometry. The shape is defined by a low-lying, rectilinear silhouette. The base is formed from two thick horizontal rails stacked vertically, with a subtle reveal between them that introduces a sense of lightness and rhythm. At each corner, the ends of the rails feature precise box-joint details, which not only reinforce the structure but also serve as a decorative articulation. The mattress itself rests atop this solid base, a simple rectangular cushion covered in a neutral textile. Its volume mirrors the base below, maintaining the overall rectilinear discipline.
