Lars Holmström for Arvika Konsthantverk ceiling light, nickel-plated steel, brass, steel, glass, Sweden, 1930s

A striking Swedish Art Deco ceiling light, designed by Lars Holmström for Arvika Konsthantverk in the 1930s. The fixture beautifully balances geometric precision with refined decorative detailing. The elegantly shaped circular frame, with its softly undulating outline, encloses a frosted glass diffuser that emits a warm, even light. Delicate brass crossbars create a graceful grid across the glass, adding depth and subtle contrast to the cool sheen of the nickel-plated frame. The stepped ceiling mount and brass accents further enhance the sophisticated composition, exemplifying Holmström's exceptional craftsmanship and the timeless elegance of Scandinavian Art Deco. Both sculptural and functional, this plafoniere is a rare and highly decorative lighting piece that complements both period and contemporary interiors.

Lars August Holmström (1894-1959) was an influential Swedish artistic blacksmith. He gained recognition for his light fixture and candlestick designs. With a group of craftsmen he started Arvika Konsthantverk, a company that allowed artisans to sell their own products. In 1925, Holmström participated in the World Exhibition in Paris.
