Gianemilio, Piero and Anna Monti (Studio di Architettura GPA Monti) for Candle, 'Luna' table or floor lamp, chrome-plated steel, fiberglass, Italy, 1968

This remarkable lamp acquired several affectionate nicknames in our team, like "mushroom" or "cloud" — a reflection of its playful and highly sculptural presence. Its original name, however, is Luna, a reference to the clustered fiberglass domes whose surface evokes the landscape of the moon. Designed by Gianemilio, Piero and Anna Monti for Candle in 1968, the lamp stands as an experimental example of late Italian modernism moving toward a more expressive, post-modern vocabulary.

The composition is built from a series of intersecting hemispherical forms balanced above a chromed steel base. When illuminated, the translucent fiberglass emits a warm atmospheric glow that accentuates the material’s irregular color, reinforcing the lamp’s lunar association and transforming it into a luminous sculptural object rather than merely a functional source of light.
