Børge Mogensen for Søborg Møbelfabrik Extendable Dining Table in Teak

Sale price£1,951.80

Børge Mogensen for Søborg Møbelfabrik, extendable dining table, model 153, teak, Denmark, 1952.

This extendable dining table is characterized by a strong and solid construction executed in teak. This is realized by the sharp and clear lines which are visible in the corners and the rectangular top. The teak has a natural expression due to the wooden grains and warm tone. The top is supported by sleek carved legs, creating a clean and transparent composition which is typical for Danish Mid-Century Design. On both sides , this table contains an extra leaf to entend the table when desired.

Børge Mogensen (1914-1972) was a Danish designer. His designs are defined by being high-quality, simple and functional. Mogensen can be seen as a democratic and idealistic designer. He aimed to solve basic problems in residential living. This meant that he designed for the middle-class and everyday use instead of for the more exclusive costumer. Contrary to his contemporaries in other countries such as Le Corbusier, Mogensen did not work with new modern materials such as steel and glass. Instead he chose to work with tested materials such as leather and wood. Being trained by Kaare Klint, he was very focussed on the human body and his ideal was to create comfortable furniture, not furniture that would end up in a museum. His designs are therefore honest, functional, simple and production friendly. Mogensen was extremely productive: hundreds of his designs went into production in his lifetime.

Width when the table is not extended: 130 cm / 51.18 in.

Kindly note that the table is in good, used condition with signs of age and use, including wear. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists.
