Paul T. Frankl for Johnson Furniture Dining Table in Maple and Cork
Paul T. Frankl for Johnson Furniture Company dining table, maple, cork, United States, circa 1950
Extendable dining table designed by Paul T. Frankl for the Johnson Furniture Company. This table is pretty remarkable in its appearance due to the use of cork for the table top, and dark geometrical maple base. Even though this design is very potent, the main goal of the pieces Paul T. Frankl developed for the Johnson Furniture Company was to create relaxed and unaffected designs that were perfect for furnishing suburban American homes in the 1950s. Most designs were composed of four principal lines, and have strong Asian-inspired influences.
