Gijs Bakker for Castelijn 'Strip' Dining Table
Gijs Bakker for Castelijn, 'Strip' dining table, black lacquered ash, The Netherlands, design 1974.
This table is designed by the Dutch furniture and jewelry designer Gijs Bakker. The dining table is designed in 1974 and distinguishes itself by means of the bent, open triangle shaped legs that are placed inwards at the corners and hence 'cut out' a space from the table top itself. This playful detail is in fact the defining design element of this otherwise simplistic, modest table. Bakker also designed a set of chairs for his Strip collection for Castelijn, these chairs are in the design collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
