Walnut and Rosewood Chest of Drawers circa 1950
Chest of drawers, walnut, rosewood and metal, United States, 1950s.
This chest of drawers features strong traits of the functional and modest furniture line of Paul McCobb. The piece features five butterfly handles and beautiful matching butterfly joints on the top of this piece. This playful and elegant use of wood joints matches the otherwise simplistic, well-balanced piece. The amount of metal handles matches the amount of drawers, five in all. The top drawer is smaller than the bottom four where the handle is placed in the middle of the drawer, highlighted by a dark line. This piece, that is typical for midcentury American design is timeless in its simplicity.
