Wall-mounted cabinet, maple, walnut, wengé, brass, Italy, 1960s
A scenic marquetry highlights this elegant wall-mounted cabinet. The large front features two flying birds in a picturesque surrounding. The gooses have their wings spread and fly into the direction of a bamboo plant. An island with plants and the distinction between water and air furthermore structures the marquetry. The detailed landscape and animals are created by inlaying different types of wood next to each other, defining great craftsmanship. Two bi-folded doors with a key access the red colored storage space with drawers and shelves. Due to the fact that the doors function as a stage for the artwork and are not firstly visible as such, creates the effect that the piece is mainly visible as a work of art rather than a cabinet. This effect is emphasised by the overlay of the doors in relation to the actual cabinet. The marquetry is signed on the bottom right corner.
