Very Rare and Very Large Lounge Chairs by Neil Morris for H. Morris Scotland
Neil Morris for H. Morris, lounge chairs, burgundy red upholstery and plywood, Scotland, 1940s.
These wavy, elegant armchairs have both a high back and high armrests and together create the high character of these very large lounge chairs. The very rare chairs, designed by Neil Morris for H. Morris are sculptural and elegant and feature various curves, both in the seat and in the armrests. The frame is made out of plywood, making these a very early example of this material in Scotland. Note the details of the velvet being attached to the sides of the frame and head, making sure that it is perfectly detailed and finished. These chairs, thanks to their theatrical frame and perfect finish are very luxurious. The gentle corners of the frame that are repeated in the armrests make this set look very sculptural and make them have a simplistic, functional aesthetic.
The purple red striped velvet upholstery is in very good condition and has most likely been recently upholstered.
