Unique Elias Svedberg for Nordiska Kompaniet Cabinet
Elias Svedberg for Nordiska Kompaniet, cabinet, wood, paper, Sweden, 1940 This unique cabinet, designed by Elias Svedberg for the Nordiska Kompaniet NK, is a beautiful piece that gives an exciting glimpse in wonderful world of Swedish design in the interbellum. The contrast between the delicate floral motifs and heavy wooden form gives the cabinet a light, playful and organic feel. Creating an interesting contrast between the echo of the past that the material evokes, and the modern air the cabinet emits. Svedberg owes his inspiration to Josef Frank, who designed a similar cabinet just a few years before, in 1938. Josef Frank derived its inspiration for the cabinet from the summer house of worldfamous botanist Carl Linnaeus in Uppsala. Here, the bedroom was wallpapered with floral prints by artist and friend, Georg Dionysius Ehret.
