TON, set of eight dining chairs, bentwood, plastic webbing, Czech Republic, 1960s
This delightful set of armchairs is characterized by a bentwood frame featuring elegant round corners and clear lines. The engraved rings add a subtle detail to the frame. The wood and the webbing show signs of age-appropriate patina and wear and use, which contribute to the authentic look of the chair. These dining chairs have an utterly well-designed construction making it suitable for different occasions, such as cafés, dining rooms, waiting areas and lounges, to name a few.
Ton was founded after World War Two in former Thonet factories and continued with the furniture making tradition set up by Thonet. In the 1960s, the Ton company asked various architects to contribute in the researc process and develop new design forms by using the renowned technology of bentwood, leading to new, more contemporary designs.
