TON, armchairs, stained beech, leatherette, Czech Republic, 1960s
This delightful set of armchairs is characterized by a bentwood frame, featuring elegant round corners and clear lines. The seat and backrest are upholstered in a delicate looking brown leatherette, which matches the wooden frame perfectly. These dining chairs have an utterly well-designed construction, making it suitable for different occasions, such as cafés, dining rooms, waiting areas and lounges.
TON was founded after World War Two in former Thonet factories and continued with the furniture making tradition set up by Thonet. In the 1960s, TON asked various architects to contribute to research and developments of new designs using the technology of bentwood and leading to new, more contemporary designs.
