Tobia Scarpa for FLOS, 'Tamburo' wall lamps, green colored aluminum, opaline glass, Italy, 1973
Originally designed as floor lamps for outdoors use, these ‘Tamburo’ lamp have been changed into wall lamps. Now their shape can be admired even more. Not low on the ground but on one level with the viewers eye the ‘Tamburo’ design can be praised. A wide ring holds two rounded glasses on both sides. Therefore the light radiates up and downwards through the white opaline glass. The aluminum is colored green and surrounded by a black line. The wall mount shows the manufacturers mark.
Afra (1937-2011) & Tobia (1935-) Scarpa both studied on the Venice Institute of Architecture. Tobia first worked for the Italian glass manufacturer Venini.
