Designed by Thonet, manufactured Ton, large set of ‘Vienna’ armchairs, bentwood, plastic, Czech Republic, design 1902/03, manufactured 1960s
The ‘Vienna Chair’ model 9 was designed by Thonet in 1902/03. They were presented in 1925 at Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and 1927 at Werkbund exhibition at the Weißenhofsiedlung in Stuttgart. The model was used by Le Corbusier to furnish his Pavillon at L’Esprit Nouveau.
This elegant set of dining chairs, designed by Thonet manufactured by Ton, features a wonderful bent wood frame. The dynamic armrest characterizes the design. Another piece of bent wood is used for the backrest and legs. The seat is upholstered in plastic that forms a great combination with the dark frame. An all over patina contributes to the unique value of the chairs.
Please note we have a larger number of this model in our collection, which makes these chairs perfect for a large scaled interior project. Please don’t hesitate to contact our design experts for more information.
Ton was founded after WWII in former Thonet factories and continued with the furniture making tradition set up by Thonet. In the 1960s, Ton asked various architects to contribute to research and developments of new designs using the technology of bentwood and leading to new, more contemporary designs.
