Superstudio for Zanotta, console table ‘Quaderna’, Italy, designed 1969

The Italian architecture and design group Superstudio (founded in 1966 by Adolfo Natalini and Cristiano Toraldo di Francia) published a catalogue with from architecture inspired forms based on a square. Superstudio called the grid on the surface ‘supersurface’ and wanted to create a new contemporary design. Later on, Superstudio also designed a furniture line that was based on the same thought and was produced by Zanotta under the name ‘Quaderna’. The outer layer is made of a silk-screened plastic laminate with a grid pattern. Underneath particle board and honeycomb board was used.
