Guido Canali, dining chairs or armchairs, walnut, leather, brass nails, Italy, 1960s

This set is one of the rare furniture designs of architect Guido Canali, (born 1935). The chairs, designed by Canali at the early stages of his career, were inspired by the work of Danish modernists such as Kaare Klint and other contemporary Danish designers. This is an excellent set, consisting of eight chairs, with frames manufactured in warm walnut. The tripod frame is structured with three tapered legs, rising up to the backrest. The circular seating and the backrest are upholstered in beautiful patinated cognac leather. The rounded shape of the backrest is emphasized by the brass nails that fixate the leather. The design of the open frame is elegant and convincing.
