Rudolf Bernd Glatzel Rosewood Credenza for Fristho
Rudolf Bernd Glatzel for Fristho Franeker, sideboard, rosewood and metal, the Netherlands, 1962.
Very well crafted highboard with beautiful proportions. The elegant brushed metal and rosewood base contribute to the floating effect of the four door storage unit. The veneered doors show a stunning graphical pattern, the base and details of the doors show great quality. The credenza holds several drawers and adjustable shelves.
Fristho (1921-1978) was a design manufacturer in the north of The Netherlands. Jean Baptist Merckx and Gustaaf Andries de Vries founded the company. They had a good eye for the time and at an early stage adopted both Scandinavian and American design. In the 1960s, Fristho advertised themselves with being 'No. 1 in Nordic design'. At the same time Fristho was rooted in Dutch functionalism.
