Rosewood Desk with Blue Leatherette Inlay
Desk with blue top in rosewood, brass, Italy, circa 1950s.
This table is both refined and distinguished as it's appearance is stately and strong. This sculptural Italian table or writing desk is truly monumental with its dark wood that contrasts the blue top. The brass feet finish the design in a wonderful way which holds the heavy weight of it's body. The legs, that both function as feet and also function as poles between the top and the drawer sections are made of metal. The piece has a funky, almost biomorphic aesthetic. The desk is completely finished with rosewood on every side, making this a perfect piece to use freestanding in a room. The blue inlayed faux leather on the top does not cover the top in its total, leaving a bit of space for the rosewood to frame the bright blue top, leaving small triangles of rosewood at the bottom corner, through which a playful touch is created. Other interesting detail are the four rosewood grips that are beautifully carved.
