Robert Heritage for Archie Shine, sideboard ‘Hamilton’, walnut, brass, United Kingdom, 1957

This beautifully designed piece won a coveted Design award selected by the British Design Council ‘Designs of the Year’, together with twenty other designs, in 1958. The ‘Hamilton’ holds incredibly high qualities that are discernible in the construction. The whole piece is executed in walnut illustrating exceptional visual characteristics. This graphical visualization adds a wonderful rhythmic and haptic surface to the front. The four drawers on the left side are carved in a precise manner resulting in elegant lines. The eye-shaped recessed drawer is equipped with a trumpet shaped knob in brass, hence, the presence of these elements adds a lively allure to the whole unit. The base is composed of four slender legs that lift the body in a graceful manner. The well-talented Robert Heritage designed a truly exceptional item that proofs his great eye for detail and high level of craftsmanship.
