Richard Lecompte coffee table, knotted wood or 'bird’s-eye' elm, France, 1970s

This is a wonderfully shaped coffee table designed by Richard Lecompte and made in France in the 1970s. The work of this artist clearly has a lot of similarities with the designs of Alexandre Noll. With clear Brutalist characteristics, this table comes across very unpolished and organic. The wood type that is used to manufacture this table definitely adds to that natural appearance. bird’s-eye or knotted wood features a lot of differ in color and texture of the wood. The black and dark brown details are repetitive throughout the whole design, and look very much like the dark eyes of birds, hence the name. The drawing in the wood is captivating and makes this coffee table a unique piece in your interior.
