Rare Willy Rizzo Rocking Chair in Black Steel and White Leather
Attributed to Willy Rizzo, rocking chair, lacquered steel, leather, rubber rope, Italy, late 1960s
This unique rocking chair by Willy Rizzo hardly ever presents itself on the market. This piece was first seen in the living room of his own holiday house located in Saint-Tropez, France. The design is built up of curved lines which are alternated with straight, clear lines and angles. Besides its modernist aesthetic, the chair provides great comfort due to the zig-zag shape of the seat, giving the support your body needs to relax. Its simple and pure exterior will come forward nicely in a calm atmosphere, like a patio or a studio space.
Willy Rizzo (1928-2013), born in Naples, was a celebrity and Hollywood photographer. His models included Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn. At a later stage in life, Rizzo discovered that his clientele loved his particular aesthetics and sense for style so much that he decided to design furniture. Often his designs where commissions from for example Salvador Dali or Marilyn Monroe. From the end of the 1960s onwards, Rizzo designed about thirty different furniture pieces.
