Paul Frankl who became famous first with his 'skyscraper furniture' in 1920s and later on got very popular due to his freeform designs with or in cork also designed this model. The coffee table 5025 is nowadays a rare to find model. What it so particular about it is the freeform shape of the tabletop that rests on three flat and wide legs. Both top and legs are executed in cork. The choice of using one material only contributes to the dynamic and floating appearance. A manufacturer's stamp with the number is visible on the bottom.
The Austrian born architect Paul Frankl (1886-1958) firstly worked in the office of Otto Salvisberg before moving to the United States where he began focusing on furniture design. Firstly known for his 'skyscraper furniture' in the 1920s he started to design for the Johnson Furniture Company from 1949 onwards. Characteristic for the designs Frankl developed for Johnson Company were, among others, the freeform cork tables in different shapes and sizes.
