Laurens Groen for H.H. de Klerk & Zoonen, birch, original textured fabric upholstery, the Netherlands, 1924.
Rare pair of 'Art Deco' side chairs in oak and fabric upholstery, labelled by H.H. de Klerk & Zoonen in Rotterdam. Laurens Groen designed a rather unique side chair which plays with proportions, lines and materials. Triangles are a repeated form in this design that underlines its origin in the Art Deco period. The upholstered seat has the shape of a trapezoid and visually connects with the upholstered part in the backrest, in triangular shape. The unique oak frame rests on black feet that contrast with the wood and the bright upholstery. Please note that the Centraal Museum in Utrecht also has this pair in its collection.
