Pia Manu, bed with nightstands, wrought iron, Belgium, 1960s
This one of a kind bedroom set designed in the workshop of Pia Manu is truly spectacular. The most prominent feature is the sizeable headboard that, like the whole set, is executed in wrought iron. Sharp geometrical weld lines are left visible on purpose as a strong decorative feature. A half tester iron canopy is prominently placed above the bed, giving this bed an almost medieval appearance. The color of the iron material used for the bedframe and nightstands shows different tones of grey and brown due to the metalworking to create this dynamic color palette.
Pia Manu is a workshop from Ingelmunster, Belgium. Here, amongst others, Jules Dewaele and his son Koen Dewaele designed several design pieces during the 60s. Pia Manu is still working along similar lines, with natural materials such as stone and travertine combined with ceramics.
