Pia Manu, coffee table, travertine, metal, Belgium, 1960s
This unique, handmade coffee table with cut and wrought iron frame is designed in the workshop of Pia Manu. The frame was made with several legs and subsequently inlayed with travertine. The combination of the travertine top and the architectural, arched legs form a strong combination. On the side of the table, is a small ceramic stamp that shows 'Pia Manu'. Interesting details are the rough edges of the steel arches and the mosaic inlay of the travertine that has been done by means of a well thought through lay out that is utterly well-balanced.
Pia Manu is a workshop from Ingelmunster, Belgium. Here, amongst others, Jules Dewaele and his son Koen Dewaele designed several design pieces during the 60s. Pia Manu is still working along similar lines, with natural materials such as stone and travertine combined with ceramics.
