Pair of Wingback Chairs in Solid Oak by Guillerme et Chambron
Guillerme et Chambron, pair of lounge chairs, oak and fabric, France, 1960s.
Guillerme and Chambron are known for their high quality solid oak furniture, from which these are a great example. These high back chairs with wings have an interesting, sculptural shape. The armrests are slim and connect with the more sturdy shaped front legs. The carved spindles of the frame in the back are delicate and make this chair a little more sophisticated than other designs by the duo. The combination of oak with the purple upholstery give a refind feel and stylish look.
The French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their production postwar. Many of the furniture designed by this duo this piece shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The duo installed themselves in an old factory were the machinery was used to make rifles. Guillerme & Chambron saw the potential of this machinery and decided to continue production as it was installed and used them for the design of their high back chairs. The line of different furniture pieces was made in small editions. They call their collection “Votre Maison” which means “Your home”.
