Tarquini Mårtensson, Michael Tarp Jensen, armchairs, black lacquered plywood, metal, wool, Denmark, 1974

This rare pair of chairs was designed by Danish architects Tarquini Mårtensson and Michael Tarp Jensen for Idrættens Hus ('House of Sports'). This impressive Brutalist complex was situated in Brøndby, a few kilometers outside of Copenhagen and built in 1974. The immense venue featured sports facilities, offices and meeting rooms. Today, the Danish Sports Confederation is still held in Idrættens Hus together with Team Denmark, Anti Doping Denmark and a number of special federations.

Inside the building, the function-driven and well constructed furniture compliments the sturdy exterior of the building. The black lacquered chairs show an honest construction with all metal joints and mounts visible. The rounded back of the seats are upholstered in a bright green wool. The geometrical construction of the chairs contribute to the architectural feeling the chairs evoke.

Please note that we advise reupholstery before use. This can be done before shipping by our experienced craftsman in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come.
