Thonet, pair of armchairs, bentwood and leather, Austria, 1920s

A stunning Jugendstil pair of armchairs by Thonet, produced in the 1920s. The chairs are feature the architect-designed Viennese bentwood furniture in the Secession style, a genre that was born at the start of the new century. Its shapes and motifs shows that Thonet did not remain unaffected by the Jugendstil movement, for instance the graphics in the backrests. The leather seat is in good condition and is finished with brass nails. A piece that you don't see often in our collection, but once in a while we love to show you something different.

Both chairs are stamped with 'Thonet' and equipped with a label.
