Artifort, set of two lounge chairs, black and white fabric, wood, The Netherlands, 1950s.

This set of chairs is an iconic example of Dutch design from the 1950s. The design is on the one hand simplistic, with elegant, subtle lines. On the other hand the set has a certain theatrical aesthetic with armrests flowing outwards and a buttoned back. The settee is equipped with wooden feet that are narrow and conically tapered. The fabric of the easy chairs shows a black and white asymmetric, almost organic stripes. The armrests are all black. The fabric features a repaired tears on the back of both chairs.
